Remote Desktop Setup

Connecting to Windows PC Clients from a Mac (?or Tablet?)

  1. on PC: System Properties
    1. [Remote] tab
      1. Remote Desktop
      2. (o) Allow remote connections to this computer
  2. on Mac: Install the Microsoft Remote Desktop client
    1. [Edit]: General
      1. Connection Name: Text you call it
      2. PC name: PC IP
      3. Gateway: probably none (for home network)
      4. Credentials: name not password
    2. [Edit]: Session
      1. Resolution: Native
      2. Colors / Session …
    3. [Connect]: Verify Certificate
      1. [Show Certificate], [ ] Always Trust…
        1. Trust Certificate requires password confirmation

Connecting to a Mac from a Windows PC

  1. on Mac: Open the “Sharing” preference panel, check box next to “Screen Sharing”
    1. [apple]→System Preferences…
    2. [Sharing]
    3. LHP Remote Login
    4. LHP Screen Sharing
      1. (o) Screen Sharing: On
      2. Allow Access for: (o) Administrators (Tim/mf)
      3. [Computer Settings…] Allow VNC viewers to control w/password (jj)
  2. on PC: Install free client called like: RealVNC viewer
    1. [VNC Viewer]
      1. VNC Server: Mac IP
      2. Encryption: Let VNC Server Choose
      3. [Options] like Scaling, window size…
      4. [Connect] provide password
      5. mouse to the top-middle of the window for extra controls w/tooltips
